Trombone Quartet No. 1
by Adrian B. Sims
Trombone Quartet No. 1 is a work consisting of three movements - I. March, II. Chorale and Maestoso, and III. Furioso and Finale. The first movement is a stately exposition that utilizes fast moving scalar passages and arpeggios as foundational elements in the composition. More harmonically adventurous than the first movement, the chorale (movement two) creates interest through its unpredictable harmonic and rhythmic motions. In the third movement, themes from the first two movements are reintroduced, tying all of the movements together. This final movement unleashes the excitement and musical energy needed to complete the three movement work. (9:00)
